Plants that live in pots indoors all year. They don't follow frost dates or square-foot spacing, so they sit apart from the garden plants and the planting calendar. Each guide covers light, watering, humidity, potting mix, pet safety and the usual problems, mostly from NC State Extension's Plant Toolbox, with pet safety from the ASPCA's poison control list.

How we describe light
Low light: a north window, or well back from a brighter one.
Medium light: an east window, or a few feet back from a south or west one.
Bright, indirect light: close to a bright window but out of the sun's direct rays.
Some direct sun: a south or west window.
These are our plain-language grouping of the light descriptions in each plant's source. "Pet-safe" means the ASPCA lists the plant as non-toxic to dogs and cats; "keep from pets" means the ASPCA doesn't list it and the plant's page says what we know instead. Looking for big yard trees?
