Morning glory is less a flower you plant and more a vine you manage — it starts twining and climbing within days of germinating, and in warm zones it will self-seed aggressively enough to become a recurring weeding chore rather than a one-season planting.
What to expect
Direct-sow seed about 2 weeks after last frost, and have a trellis in place before it goes in — this isn’t a plant to retrofit support for later. It matures around 75 days and needs relatively little space (a quarter square foot per plant), but that number understates how much vertical room it actually takes up once it’s climbing. In zone 9 and warmer, expect volunteer seedlings to show up in following seasons whether you want them or not.
Common problems
