Companion Planting & Garden Value: Grape

Vitis spp.

Spacing: needs about 16 square feet per plant. Mature height: 6-10 ft.

Pollination

Self-fertile: one plant, on its own, sets fruit. Most vines have perfect, self-fertile flowers and need no partner. The exception is muscadine grape, where many of the best-fruited named cultivars are female-only and need a self-fertile "perfect-flowered" variety planted within about 25 ft to set fruit at all.
